| Gordon Hope Grant was born in San Francisco in 1875. He studied at Lambeth and Heatherly Art School in London. He was an associate member of the National Academy of Design, a member of Allied Artists of American, Society of American Etchers, Chicago Society of Etchers, American Watercolor Society, Philadelphia Watercolor Club, California Print Makers and the Salmagundi Club. He exhibited with these institutions, winning prizes on many occasions and received a medal | at the Paris Salon of 1937. A prolific painter and illustrator as well as a lithographer and etcher, Grant's work is represented in the collections of the Kendall Whaling Museum; Mystic Seaport Museum, New York Historical Society; Metropolitan Museum of Art; New York Public Library; Joslyn Museum; Library of Congress; US Naval Academy and the White House. He died in New York in 1962. |
